Course Overview

The programme of three training sessions is aimed at new governors and offers an essential and comprehensive overview of the skills and knowledge you will need to quickly get to grips with your new role as a school governor.

The programme aims to support new governors to better understand:

  • the types of governance boards and the roles they play
  • how to be an effective member of a board
  • the key roles and responsibilities of boards in contributing to school improvement
  • the different and complementary roles of the CEO, headteacher/principal and the board
  • the roles of different stakeholders and their relationship with the board

The course will take place over three, two hour sessions.

Schools who have bought the Learn Sheffield Governance Offer will have free access (subject to availability) to this programme. Settings who have not purchased the offer, including RoSIS subscribers, can access this programme at £195 per person for all three sessions.
