• The statutory framework for exclusions
• Factors to consider before making a permanent exclusion
• The role of the Headteacher/Principal
• Communication with parents
• Timescales
• The role of the Governing Body (Governors Discipline Committee)
• Independent Review Panel/SEN representatives

Audience: Headteachers and Senior Leaders who need to understand the legal framework for managing suspensions and permanent exclusions

This session will focus on highlighting current risks, local Safeguarding processes, resources available to schools, and advice from Ofsted.

The Counter Terrorism & Security Act 2015 placed a statutory duty on schools and other public bodies to safeguard vulnerable individuals from radicalisation. It is essential that schools in all phases understand their Prevent responsibilities and are aware of the current local and national context. This session will focus on highlighting current risks, local Safeguarding processes, resources available to schools, and advice from Ofsted.

This session is aimed at both new and existing leaders and may replicate some material from earlier training sessions. Section 117 of the Prevent Duty Guidance states, “It is recommended that those with Prevent-specific responsibilities refresh their training at least every two years, enabling them to support others on Prevent matters and update them on relevant issues.

A course for Headteachers, or Senior Leaders involved in the management of school attendance. These sessions will be based around the Expectations of Headteachers around school attendance, and the support from the Local Authority they can expect within joint actions.

This programme aims to support sustainable improvement in the attendance in line with the schools ABIE target, and how effective joint working can support you to understand the barriers affecting a child’s engagement with education, and improve overall school attendance levels: It will focus on:

• What are the new ABIE targets and how do we measure against these?
• How can we track and evidence the key improvement areas within the similar schools’ reports?
• What can you expect from a Targeted Attendance Support Meeting and how can joint actions identified within the TASM support your school improvement journey.
• What will Ofsted be looking for when discussing school and individual pupil attendance?
• How can you use the self-assessment tool to inform your school improvement plan?
