PESSPA

Sheffield Physical Education, School Sport & Physical Activity (PESSPA) Alliance

PESSPA Champions

Over 2020-21, the Sheffield PESSPA Alliance worked in partnership with Learn Sheffield and Mercia TSA to deliver a DfE funded programme to improve the quality of PE teaching and leadership. This partnership recruited a team of specialist leaders in education to work with identified schools and share good practice across the city.

We are delighted to share with you our list of ‘PESSPA Champions’ who have demonstrated excellence in their field in the City. We encourage you to get in touch with them.

Sarah Williams

Sarah Williams

Senior Lecturer and Primary and Early Years PGCE Course Leader at Sheffield Hallam University.

I have been part of the PE and school sport network in Sheffield for 18 years. I originally trained as a generalist primary school teacher but early into my teaching career I began working in primary and secondary schools as a PE specialist.

Before taking up my role in Initial Teacher Training, I managed a school sport partnership and enjoyed working closely with schools and teachers. I currently lead a Primary PE Specialist PGCE course and Primary School Direct programme at Sheffield Hallam University. Additionally, I am undertaking research into the impact of head teacher beliefs on the way in which PE is taught in primary schools. I am a passionate advocate of the place of PE within the curriculum and I enjoy helping teachers to develop confidence in their teaching of PE.
