On Tuesday 19th October Mary Myatt delivered the first of two sessions on Unpacking Curriculum Entitlement. This session was part of the ‘Leadership and Curriculum’ strand of the Learn Sheffield Autumn Online Festival.

The session covered the importance of having a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum and explored some of the theory and evidence behind this. Mary shared insight around the fact that there can be great results from an ambitious curriculum being offered to pupils of all levels. There was also discussion around how ability groups can be damaging or self-limiting for pupils and the fact that children can cope with more than we give them credit provided they are adequately supported.

The session also discussed the importance of dealing with concepts and content in depth rather than covering too much content at a surface level as well as touching briefly on feedback and how it can be made more effective.

The second session will take place on Tuesday 9 November from 1.00-2.30pm. You can book onto this session on our website.

This session was recorded, we look forward to sharing that with you soon. To see and access more online events as part of the Learn Sheffield Autumn Online Festival, head to our website.
