Festival News: Create Sheffield's Sheffield Adventures

Sophie Hunter, Create Sheffield Programme Manager and Jenny Coats, Create Sheffield Creative Education Producer and Head at Beck School hosted an event about their Sheffield Adventures during the ‘Why Creativity Matters NOW’ strand of the Learn Sheffield Autumn Online Festival. 

There are currently over 50 Adventures on the Create Sheffield website which have been used over 6000 times from their launch in April 2020, with more currently being written by arts and cultural organisations in the city. 

Jenny Coats shared a couple of examples of her favourite Adventures, and considered how she might use them within the curriculum, school day or even with staff CPD events. Here a few examples:

• River Explorers explores Sheffield’s five rivers and asks participants to imagine they are town planners, challenging them to design a green space alongside one of the rivers. 
• Let’s Be Museum Curators challenge participants to curate a unique exhibition and to convince a museum director to display work.
• #19 Growing Little People, Plants and Things (from 50 Things Sheffield) guides gatekeepers in helping children to grow plants whilst developing healthy food choices and behaviours.

About Create Sheffield 

Create Sheffield is Sheffield’s Cultural Education Partnership, it exists to take the young people of Sheffield on ‘a journey into the arts, culture and heritage sectors, benefiting the lives of all those in Sheffield aged 0-24. Create Sheffield is supported by IVE, the Arts Council Bridge Organisation for Yorkshire and the Humber and also has received support from other organisations in Sheffield.
