This session, Subconscious Bias and the Impact on assessment was led by Pran Patel as part of the Learn Sheffield Online Autumn Festival. The aim of the session was to understand how bias can manifest itself in assessment, how assessment can change and the benefit of auditing.

Attendees were given the opportunity to consider what their own assessment aims were and what their current methods achieved. Thinking of the classroom they were asked if their assessment methods bolster self-worth or are solely critical. Leading on from this there was a discussion surrounding the Rosenthal effect and the implications of Self- Efficiency.

Staff were given another opportunity to discuss how their sets within the class look and what their context is for streaming these sets. The question was asked: ‘If you feel that you set but have a mixed balance- how have you achieved this?’
